|  Seminarian Chad Speller has been assigned as a vicar at the Lutheran Heritage Foundation, where he will take on responsibilities in church relations and development.
Speller is a student at Concordia Theological Seminary in Fort Wayne, Ind. In June, he began his 12-month vicarage with LHF, a Michigan-based mission organization that translates and publishes Lutheran materials for the church around the world. “We’re very pleased that God has guided Vicar Speller to LHF,” said Executive Director Rev. James Fandrey. “He’s a very talented man who will play an important part in getting the word out about the LHF mission, particularly in Ohio and Indiana.” Before attending seminary, Speller worked in management for 12 years at American Axle, a supplier for General Motors. His decision to leave his career to serve in the ministry caught many of his friends and family by surprise. “There was a perfect storm of factors leading to that decision,” he said. “I was tired of making business decisions that hurt people. Instead, I wanted to do something to help people. Plus, my son was born – and suddenly, my whole outlook on life was different." Speller said he’s looking forward to expanding his experience in mission work at LHF. “The opportunity to serve at LHF is very unique,” he explained. “The books LHF prints touch thousands of people around the world, helping them to understand Scripture and deepen their faith in Jesus Christ. It’s a privilege to be part of an organization where it’s easy to see the Holy Spirit at work in so many lives." Vicar Speller will also fulfill part of his vicarage assignment at his home congregation, Lutheran Church of the Redeemer in Birmingham, Mich. He and his wife, Erin, have two sons, Jacob and Griffin.
